Q: What’s the difference between playgroup and nursery classes apart from the child’s age?

A: Our playgroup sessions are generally 3 hours – Mornings 9.00 – 12.00 or full days 9.00 – 3.00. Children starting in September are currently not funded and we therefore charge a subsidised fee until your child is eligible for the Free Early Education Entitlement [FEEE] which is the term after their 3rd birthday. Funding Terms are January, April and September following the child’s 3rd birthday.

Parents can ask for full days, 8.00 – 4.00 or 9.00 – 3.00 where available.

Once your child receives funding you will become eligible for 15 hours of free childcare and we will offer this where we have availability. If you are eligible for the additional 15 hours [eligibility criteria must be met] we will endeavour to offer you additional hours. Please see for more information about eligibility.

Our Nursery classes run Monday – Friday and we offer every child a minimum of 15 hours of childcare. There is no charge for 15 hours as all children are funded from the FEEE in September. Nursery children follow a more structured routine and they wear uniform.

Q: How do you allocate places?

A: New Entrants – Playgroup

At the end of May all children on file meeting the correct date of birth are allocated a place at the Pre-School according to parent’s wishes, depending on the number of places and the number of applicants. All new entrants will be given details of our website, to view a prospectus, policies and other relevant information. An offer letter, term dates and acceptance form, and details of the committee will be emailed or sent to prospective parents and they will be invited to attend an open day. With effect from 1st June any new applicant will be placed on a waiting list in order of date applied. If a new entrant declines, the children on the waiting list will be offered available places. The open day will enable families to meet Staff members and see what is on offer. They will be able to discuss any changes required to the sessions allocated and any other concerns that they may have.

New Entrants – Nursery

Allocated through Expression of Interest

At the end of Term 3, Parents already at the setting will be asked to advise if they require a place in the Nursery sessions for their child. All children on the waiting list will also be contacted. Offer letters will be sent out at the beginning of Term 5 and all forms will need to be returned before mid-May when allocations are being made for playgroup new entrants. The offer letter will include an acceptance, name tag order form, sweatshirt order form, committee details and transition dates. Those on the waiting list who have expressed an interest will be invited to transition days. Eligibility of the additional 15 hours will be confirmed if not previously awarded.

Q: My child is 2 can I apply for funding?

A: Yes you can -
Complete the online form to see if you are eligible

Q: Do you accept 2 year old funded children?

A: Yes we do providing they meet with our admissions criteria. We can offer 15 hours funding for your child during term time only. If this suits you then we would be very happy to welcome your family at our pre-school.

Q: Do you offer Holiday Club?

A: Yes we do, we advise parents of the dates in advance. We are open for all school holidays excluding Bank Holidays. We currently charge £3.50 per hour and if you are eligible you can use your tax free childcare account to pay, which will reduce the cost. Breakfast and tea are provided along with a snack mid-morning, but you will need to bring a packed lunch. Nursery children do not need to wear uniform although sensible shoes with closed toes are required for outside play. The sessions tend to be themed but are very laid back and it is a lovely opportunity for children to make new friendships and provide continuity with routine.
